Oregonian: Good Time to Hold A Hearing

The Oregonian Editorial Board called for the state legislature "to hold a hearing and solicit public testimony on how credit unions are carrying out their responsibilities to the community."

While calls to tax credit unions were dismissed by the paper, the editorial stated that "credit unions should assure taxpayers and their customers that they will remain customer-focused," especially the largest credit unions that are behaving "more like banks."

The Oregonian Editorial Board was responding to two bills before the state legislature that would have credit unions document how they are serving low- and moderate-income members and would measure credit union services to underserved areas.

  1. Have no fear, mr Leggett!
Cuna (cu not accountable) will come to the rescue with their spiffy "tax tool kit"!
Cuna (cu not accountable) will deliver the tool kit filled with misinformation about sub s banks and the millions of members that are double to quadruple counted while chanting "don't tax me bro".
Cuna (cu not accountable) wants the attention everywhere but on THEIR record.
Heaven forbid big credit unions should pay taxes like the rest of America.
Congress hasn't done anything for credit unions since 1998, but Cuna (cu not accountable) has done something TOO us. Taken our money and pointed the finger at banks.
No wonder the CEO of a large credit union offered up to be taxed to get better capital rules.
No wonder some of the best credit unions share something in common, disaffiliation.
No wonder the CEO of a huge credit union and industry voice is daily posting disgust for Cuna (cu not accountable) and NCYA.
Wait til the rest of credit unions realize we're getting nothing for all the money wasted and it's because we don't pay taxes.
Looks like the country is figured out that there is credit unions and then there's bankcreditunions!

  2. And in other news, the Oregonian calls for a taxpayer funded study for Dairy Queen to prove how it's providing ice cream...
